Cyprus, a beautiful island nation in the Mediterranean, is one of the few real pilgrimage sites that appear in the New Testament. Known as a place visited by Saint Paul and Saint Barnabas on their first missionary journey, it became an important stage for the apostles' proclamation of the Gospel.

In the Old Testament, Cyprus appears under the name Kittim, which is said to derive from Kition. Kition was an important Phoenician colony.

Church of Saint Lazarus
Lazarus, raised from the dead by Jesus, is said to have later crossed to Cyprus and lived here for thirty years. The Church of Saint Lazarus was built in Larnaca in the 9th century.

Temple of Apollo at Kourion
The Temple of Apollo at Kourion, which flourished in Paul's day, was built in the 2nd century.

Paphos
Its beautiful townscape holds many ancient ruins. From this harbor Paul and his companions set sail for their next place of mission.
