Turkey

Called “Asia” in the Bible, this was the land where many of the apostles preached the Gospel, and countless towns and churches named in the New Testament truly existed here. Though far from Jerusalem, this is quite literally one of the stages on which the early Church took shape.

    Ephesus

    Here stands the church of Ephesus, foremost among the seven churches. Ephesus is also famous as the place where Paul stayed and preached for more than two years. It is said that many worshippers gathered here and that trade flourished greatly.

    Perga

    The place where the disciples were first called “Christians” (Acts 11:26), and a base for the mission of Paul and Barnabas. Perga still holds ruins that recall its prosperity in those days.

    Antioch in Pisidia

    Known as the place where Paul first preached, it was an important starting point in his missionary journeys (Acts 13). As a symbolic site of the “mission to the Gentiles,” it draws many pilgrims.

    Iconium

    A town where Paul proclaimed the Gospel during his first missionary journey (Acts 13–14). It was an important base following on from Antioch in Pisidia.

    Troas

    The place where Paul saw the vision calling him to Macedonia (Acts 16:9) — the turning point at which his mission spread from Asia into Europe.

    Miletus

    The harbor town where Paul summoned the elders of Ephesus and spoke his farewell (Acts 20). Facing the Aegean Sea, it is one of the places indispensable to the story of Paul's missionary journeys.

    Assos

    Paul went by land from Troas to Assos, while his companions went by sea, arranging to meet at Assos. Assos is a small harbor town, and from this port Paul set sail together with Luke and the others.
